TCAS: Tacis Cities Award Scheme

 
       

About Tacis Cities Award Scheme

Objectives
TCAS aims to:

  • improve environmental situation in municipalities bordering EU through specific practical action; and
  • improve cooperation of municipalities with governments and NGOs in the field of environment.

Priorities
TCAS priorities are with municipal projects that:

  • are practical;
  • result in measurable quality of life improvement;
  • target a specific issue with adverse effect on inhabitants;
  • address documented environmental priorities; and
  • improve cooperation with other municipalities and organisations.

Eligible action areas
Actions eligible for TCAS funding should be:

  • related to environmental management and contribute to sustainable development;
  • carried out in one of the following areas, prioritized in the following order:
    1. solid waste and hazardous waste management
    2. water pollution control, waste water treatment and water saving
    3. air pollution control (vehicle pollution control, industrial emissions control)
    4. energy efficiency (district heating, insulation in municipal buildings, alternative energy sources)
    5. access to environmental information (awareness raising, monitoring and evaluation of the environmental situation by the authorities and civil society) in relation to any of the above areas;
  • in line with environmental priorities defined by the municipality concerned.
Project Timeline
  • Call for proposals: March, 2006
  • Deadline for proposals: June 30, 2006
  • Awarded projects announced: October, 2006
  • End of project activities: December, 2007
