About Tacis Cities Award Scheme
Objectives
TCAS aims to:
- improve environmental situation in municipalities bordering EU through specific practical action; and
- improve cooperation of municipalities with governments and NGOs in the field of environment.
Priorities
TCAS priorities are with municipal projects that:
- are practical;
- result in measurable quality of life improvement;
- target a specific issue with adverse effect on inhabitants;
- address documented environmental priorities; and
- improve cooperation with other municipalities and organisations.
Eligible action areas
Actions eligible for TCAS funding should be:
- related to environmental management and contribute to sustainable development;
- carried out in one of the following areas, prioritized in the following order:
- solid waste and hazardous waste management
- water pollution control, waste water treatment and water saving
- air pollution control (vehicle pollution control, industrial emissions control)
- energy efficiency (district heating, insulation in municipal buildings, alternative energy sources)
- access to environmental information (awareness raising, monitoring and
evaluation of the environmental situation by the authorities and civil society) in relation to any of
the above areas;
- in line with environmental priorities defined by the municipality concerned.
