Waste management makes better town for life: the TCAS-funded project story of Apatity, Murmansk Oblast, Russia

The project “Apatity – Town for Life”, which was the only one supported by TCAS in Russia, contributed to implementation of the Russian Federation waste management policy, geared towards sustainable development and environment enhancement. The project aimed at decreasing the negative impact of municipal wastes on environment and health of the population of Apatity region.


Improvement of the waste management system in Kutaisi

The project represents the first in Georgia pilot on waste separation. Its overall objective was to reduce the impact of municipal waste on environment and the quality of life of inhabitants of Kutaisi. The specific objective of the project was to reduce the volume of the waste arriving at the landfill through organizing separate collection of recyclable fractions.


Institutional Management of the Health-care Waste in Batumi and Kobuleti cities

Batumi is a Capital of Adjara Autonomous Republic _ the prettiest region of Georgia, which makes its income from sea-side tourism. More than million tourists are served here every year. Understandably medical institutions are of crucial necessity. Most of them are located in Batumi and its surroundings.

Tacis Cities Awards announced

The EU has granted EUR 1.6 million for environmental improvements in Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine as part of its Tacis Cities Award Scheme (TCAS). The funds will be used for sustainable waste management, public awareness raising and water treatment in ten municipalities situated along the EU’s borders. Read all »

Tacis Cities Award Scheme (TCAS) launched

The European Union (EU) has announced today the call for funding municipalities along the western borders of Belarus, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine, and in the whole territory of Georgia. The TCAS call for proposals is posted on the website of EuropeAid, which is the EU department that handles external aid. All documents are available for dowloading here. Solid waste management, water supply and water treatment, air pollution, energy efficiency in municipal buildings, and access to information are the possible areas for TCAS proposals.

EU funds environment in municipalities across borders

The European Union will distribute a total of EUR 1.6 million to fund environmental sustainability improvements beyond its new Eastern Borders, through the Tacis Cities Award Scheme (TCAS)TCAS has been launched by EuropeAid for municipalities in the border regions of Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and the whole territory of Georgia. Royal Haskoning and the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe will work to encourage participation in the TCAS grant programme, and to raise awareness of sustainable development and environmental protection at municipal level
